Out in the saltwater, Coho grow quickly and feed heavily on herring, anchovies, squid, and sand lance. As the season progresses, their sides brighten to chrome silver with a faint splash of blue or green across the back. Just before entering the rivers, Coho develop deeper tones of red, rose, or copper, giving them their distinctive “Silver” nickname.

In the ocean, Coho usually spend one full year maturing in coastal and offshore waters before returning to Puget Sound as strong, energetic adults.
